HAMILTON, BERMUDA -- The Pittsburgh Riverhounds began a four game road trip with a 2-1 victory over the Bermuda Hogges at the National Sports Center in the island nation.

Evans set up the winner

The Hounds got on the board early as a long throw-in by defender Ed Hayden was flicked to the back post by midfielder Tony Labudovski in the 10th minute.

The Hogges almost tied the game just two minutes later when Domico Coddington headed a cross directly on goal from point blank range, but Pittsburgh keeper Danny Waltman made a critical save to keep the Hounds ahead 1-0.

In the 20th minute, Riverhound striker Randolph Jerome had a shot from about 25 yards out go just over the crossbar.

The first half continued with both teams committing fouls. In the 45th minute, defender Tenywa “T-Bone” Bonseu scored on a diving header off of a Justin Evans corner kick and the Riverhounds doubled their lead at 2-0.

Both teams spent most of the second half battling in the midfield. But in the 86th minute, Bermuda’s Lloyd Holder rose above the Riverhounds defensive third and headed the ball on goal off of a Lashon Dill corner kick.

The win gives Pittsburgh a 4-5-3 slate (15-points) and puts the Hounds in a two-way tie for seventh place in the United Soccer Leagues Second Division with the Western Mass Pioneers. Bermuda remains in ninth and last place with a mark of 3-9-2 (11-points). The same sides play again on Saturday in Bermuda.

Tonight’s match was the first of a four game road swing for Pittsburgh. After their July 4th rematch with the Hogges, the Hounds face Real Maryland on July 11th before visiting first place Harrisburg on July 18th.

After this trip, Pittsburgh will be home for its last five consecutive regular season games beginning on July 24th and 26th when they host the Western Mass Pioneers for two games. The Riverhounds will be home to Wilmington on August 1st, Charlotte on August 8th, and Crystal Palace Baltimore on August 15th.
