Harrisburg downs Binghamton
HARRISBURG -- The Harrisburg City Islanders closed out their preseason schedule on Wednesday night with their best performance to date, shutting out Binghamton University 4-0 at Hersheypark Stadium.
With the club’s 2004 season opener just days away (Saturday at Northern Virginia, 7:30 p.m.), the Islanders played a thorough, workmanlike 90 minutes, allowing the Bearcats less than a handful of chances.
Aleks Radovic scored the first goal of the match in the 15th minute, off a service from right midfielder David Schofield, who drove Harrisburg’s attack most of the day. Radovic added a penalty kick goal in the 87th minute to give him a team-leading nine points (three goals, three assists) this preseason.
Radovic’s tallies served as the bookends for scores from strikers Steve Custer (66th) and Matt Shealer (72nd).
Peter Boyer, a 2003 Division III First Team All-American at Drew University, played the first half in goal for the Islanders, recording the win. Dave Kern and Brandon Eiserman split time in the second half.
