Phantoms wrap up preseason
HUDSON, NH -- The New Hampshire Phantoms finished their pre-season schedule this past weekend with a 3-1 victory over University of New Hampshire.
Two goals from Robbie VanRykel (Southern New Hampshire University) and one from Bjorn Hansen matched a UNH goal from a penalty kick.
The result gave the team a 7-1-1 record with 22 goals for and six conceded against the likes of SNHU, Franklin Pierce, UMass-Lowell, Northeastern, University of Rhode Island, Providence and Keene State as well as UNH.
The pre-season schedule gave General Manager Jim DeDeus the opportunity to work in all the new players with the returners in time for opening day.
"I think we will be ready for the upcoming season and are are looking forward to improving on last years finish," said DeDeus.
The Phantoms finished the 2003 season as the Northern Region regular season champions with a record of 11-7-2 before losing 5-3 to the Westchester Flames in a two-game home and home aggregate score series.
The Flames went on to the final where they lost to the Wilmington Hammerheads in overtime. The Flames provide the opposition this coming weekend as the Phantoms open the season in New Rochelle, New York on Saturday, May 1st at 5pm.
