PITTSBURGH, PA -- Goalkeeper Phil Marfuggi is joining the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the United Soccer Leagues Second Division, pending federation approval. He was a member of Major League Soccer's New England Revolution - one of three players taken in the 2007 MLS Supplemental Draft.
While in college at Clemson University, he was named to Soccer America’s All-America 1st Team in 2005 as a junior. In 2006, Marfuggi was named to the NSCAA All-South 2nd Team, and 2nd Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference.
Marfuggi finished his senior season at Clemson with a 1.29 goals against average and made 67 saves on the year for the Tigers. For his career, he had 237 saves, good for fourth on Clemson's career saves list. He was listed among the 25 players in the 2006 Missouri Athletic Club's Hermann Trophy Watch List.
In 2005, Marfuggi was 1st Team All-American by Soccer America and soccertimes.com, 3rd Team All-American by collegesoccernews.com. Before he got to Clemson, he was a member of the PDA United club team and attended West Windsor High School in West Windsor, New Jersey.
He later attended the Edison Academic Center in Bradenton, Florida, participated in the United States Under-17 National Team Residency Program, was a member of the Region I ODP program and was a member of the New Jersey State ODP team.
